My Neighbourhood Salon

August 25, 2006 · No Comments

I go to this “che kai” (not so glamourous) suburban hair salon to wash my hair. (very cheap ma!) Mostly aunties and grannies (bringing their maids/kids for haircuts!) go there, so I usually just let them wash my hair and not do anything else there ler..hehehe…sked ma..(afraid) after turn out like one laundryahSOH otoke?

Anyway, they still use this giant hair blower to set hair by curling your hair in rollers. I notice that many newer salons do not adopt this method anymore simply because this method has become obsolete. But according to my hairdresser, the reason for salons not adopting this method is that new hairdressers were not taught to curl the hair with curlers. Strange lor cos it doesn’t look all that difficult to me but it’s really time consuming only as it takes 45 minutes to blow dry my hair…My hairdresser said this method is the best as it will not cause damage. True wor..

So this is what I go through twice a week under the brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr….blower….kekekeke…the result really soft flowing curls that never fails to dazzle! cheh wah…

Window advertising

August 24, 2006 · 4 Comments

Following a post by AhJoo regarding the live window models, I remembered one of Kieran’s many surprises he pulled some time ago. This is what happens when he gets too bored during of one of my many shopping sprees..I really do not know where he got this idea from..He did this again (too bad this one no picutre) at one of the boutiques in KL Plaza, the one that faces the walkway on Bintang Walk and he actually attracted a lot of people looking in and wondering why is a boy standing at the window of a womens clothing store..It was very funny lor cos he just stood there motionless with a very serious look on his face and didn’t react even when people were pointing at him and laughing…

Mini Conversation with Kieran

August 24, 2006 · 5 Comments

This morning grandma called and asked to talk to Kieran. She was offering to take him out to MidValley and I was silently gesturing to Kieran, “Go Go..ask Ah Po take you to Mega Kidz, pls pls…” hahaha..trying to get rid of him cos he was creating a mess in the office yesterday. Initially he didn’t want to go but I was trying to get him excited and thank God he finally agreed to go! Strange that he’s not really interested to go out nowadays, I think it’s bcos mummy takes too much time shopping and bored him..so shopping centres are no fun to him..

Quickly went up to get him changed to kai kai clothes! He has begun to have preference of his attire so he chose his shirt and allowed me to choose his shorts though. Then he asked which shoe to wear. As he was about to wear his sandals, he sat on a mini stool but lost his balance and “bump” on his bum bum..It was quite funny so I naturally laughed la.

K - (upset) Hey don’t laugh! Not funny!

Me - hahahaha….funny wat…

K - hughh,,,(whiny type of tone..u know..) not funny ok! I throw the sandal at you ah!

Me - (wide eyed!) Wey! Cannot liddis ah..When I have a minor accident, you also laugh at me wat..

K - No! Don’t laugh, stop it! I spray water at you ah.. (pointed his sprout water bottle at me lookin very vicious)

Me - Ok that’s it, from now on I will not laugh at you and likewise you must not laugh at others! So do you know how it feels when ppl laugh at you?

K - Yes..

Me - then don’t laugh at others too ok?

K - ok…

Cannot work with family

August 23, 2006 · 6 Comments

It’s so hard to work with family. Can’t quit each other ma. But then, how to work with one who constantly give you headache wan…Ayo, solly ah,,only Oscar’s mommy can understand my situation.

The fact is he keeps repeating the same mistakes over and over again. Why la? He’s supposed to be the smartest in the family, his knowledge in our industry is top notch therefore he’s the type where we classify as IQ high but EQ low to the pits leh..In fact his general knowledge also very “geng” (good) like why the bla bla salmon swim upstream to mate and lay eggs he also know lor..He potrays himself as so “clever” that his in-laws call him for the littlest thing like, get the locksmith to open the drawer and why astro no picture suddenly..etc etc…Die or not?

Whenever I complain about him to my friends, they will say this, “Aiya him again…what’s new, he always kek u wan la…aiya change subject la..” Sei mo?? (Die or not?) So poor Oscar’s mommy has to be my punching bag! Solly ah..but thanks for being a great punching bag lor…muaks muaks!!

Do I look like a walking ATM?

August 21, 2006 · 11 Comments

An NCR interior, multi-function ATM in the USA
Picture from http://upload.wikimedia.org

Ok this is one long winded post, but me very “farn” (troubled) la…sorry la ahjooo..Sigh,,I dunno la. I guess it all started from my dad’s time…He was the eldest in the family and considered the most successful sibling since he started his own business. Don’t get me wrong, he’s not some big terror tycoon, just enough to get by la and give us comfortable lives and education.

Him being a good older brother, he provided for his siblings too. He naturally gave all his siblings a certain number of shares in the business without asking for anything in return. My dad, he’s that type of guy! Yau yi hei! (reliable)Did his sibings appreciate that? NO LOR! Instead they always demand for this and that, and my dad is always helping them out no matter what,in fact he always told us to do the same when he’s not here anymore. But I felt that we are not obliged to, am I really evil or mo yi hei to think liddat??

I don’t know,,anyway what’s the association of the above story to my title of this post? Well, one of my cousins treated me this way too, he was studying at that time and we were sort of helping out by giving him some allowance. He had in many occasions walked up my office and say that he needed cash without having the courtesy to call in advance. Like I always have cash with me la! Chi sin! (mad ah?)

Anyway, there are a few friends who came to me for money too, the 1st one, an ex-colleague, well we were quite close and sort of kept in contact after both of us left our employer. He came to my office one fine day and told me he had something going on and needed some cash to roll. Well, ok lor not much so I lend la…manatau (how I know) he totally forgot about it and never paid me back..(reminds me of the song..why u so liddat..i give u my kit kat..u never gimme back! why u so liddat..) I also felt funny to ask for it lor..stupid or not? The best part is, he still calls me once in a while to chit chat!!!

Next, was another ex-colleague from another company. We became very good friends then on and kept in contact very often. He became quite successful in his career but still remembered me and never failed to remember my birthday each year! Not that he likes me la, just a friend, even after I married and then he married, he was still a good friend. Then things took a turn and his business failed and he needed cash! *Ting*! Yes, he came to me, and asked for a substantial amount of loan. Ayo! I hate this la…how to refuse a friend like him? I relented but half the amount la. He told me he will return in 3 months,,but it has come to the 2nd year and he’s only returned 20% of the loan. I don’t chase for it la, knowing that he’s struggling but I also like need the cash too since I’m getting ready for my new house,,,

Then there was a staff (NP) of mine. The first week he came to work he already asked for a loan! Waliau! Well, at that point of time, business was not doing too well and I felt it would be inappropriate to loan to a new employee. What would the older employees be thinking then? So, I took out my own money and lent to him. He was working with us for about 5 years?? Can’t remember the facts, maybe Oscar’s mom can enlighten me here..And along the time he was with us, he has many times requested for short term loans in terms of advanced salary/commisions. We never charged any interests. In fact, we continued to help him even after he left us. In fact he asked for a loan again last week. This guy has a serious problem with his expenditure, normal la, spending more than he earns and practically lives on credit. He hasn’t even paid off his apartment, he bought another house. Even I haven’t even moved into the first house that me & hubby bought! So I thought, well I think no problem la can help but I told him it better not be for a new car! (I sort of know he was thinking of a new luxurious car some time back) He said no lar..he has a loan but he needs to settle another loan in order for the new loan to be drawndown. So I guess ok lor..

Then I was with my customer last Saturday (Chinatown)and we talked about NP. He used to service her in those days when he was working for me. I found out he also borrowed from her! God! He has borrowed from customers too..can you imagine?? Well she said she managed to recover the amount by chasing him like mad. Then she remarked about him not being grateful for the help rendered to him and how he manipulated his way out of paying her a commission for a sale she helped him solicitated..bla bla..Then *ting* *ting* which reminded me of something! AH! It was just last month or the month before, when I needed NP’s help desperately as we were shorthanded and he could help! I expected him to ask for a fee that is reasonable to cover for his transport and time but he asked for an over-the-mountain ridiculously high amount which made my eyes popped! I was furious naturally, and the reason behind that? He needed the extra cash! Wah treat me like sucker! Shiaks! man! What the *toot*..what happened to the many times he referred to us as his friends, the type who were there when in need…bluekkkkkkkkkkk! So…otoke? Don’t lend la! Like I owe him meh? I told him I would write the cheque for him this week but I didn’t call him to tell him I’ve changed my mind..hey..who’s the one in need here? Ok la..quite bad la me but today I “one head wind” (very busy), had to do laundry as maid is incompetent! I’m very fussy with my laundry…errr…can guess why ah?

Well, being the person he is, he called la..then I told him the reason which was kinda dumb lor and I knew he will sort of know it’s dumb, so he sent me one *toot* sms and was like “khau fun” (teaching me a lesson) me liddat! He said it was my perogative to approve the loan so weyo I pushed the blame to someone else..Yah like I must explain to him liddat! MY MONEY WAT! Fish la! Anyway, he could have at least said nicely la maybe I will change my mind leh? NOW!! Lei sei lei si ler..” (I don’t care).

So, me bad or not? I also not too sure…

My Life Just Shortened by 10 years

August 19, 2006 · 12 Comments

Kieran’s Sports Day

Had to be there by 7.30 a.m so it was naturally havoc la, getting ready of a kid who’s got this whiningitis problem and also a 14 month old so early is not easy leh. Lagi maid has to drive me up the wall by misplacing certain things which I need at that point of time! That took maybe 3 years off..

Chinatown
Then had to bring customer to get something from Petaling Street so took the opportunity to visit one vely vely old restaurant which my dad used to go very often when he was around. But to my dismay, it’s not as happening as before. Weyo?

  • There were only like 3 - 4 tables of customers (used to be pack on Saturdays)
  • Staff look very dead, in fact some oredi deaded
  • Food not so good, the char siu that used to melt in your mouth was like rubber..
  • The loyal and regular customers are either deaded or going to be deaded
  • Since they upgraded and converted the road to pedestrians only, the roadside shops have expanded and kinda overshadowed the shops and hence the chance for new potential customers is very low

Sad lor cos this place bring back sweet memories of my dad.. :(

Salon
Usual hair done on Saturdays and couldn’t catch a nap cos the blower goes like brrrrr and endless chatter in very loud Hokkien between the hairdresser and her visiting sister..

Sudden bout of energy
Thought I could catch a nap but no lor cos I asked the maid to bring something out from the fridge and she has no idea what I was talking about. Then I noticed that the fridge was so freaking dirty and packed to the max. Weyo?

  • I don’t think maid has ever cleaned it since the day she came which was last November
  • I had enough ikan bilis to re-sell, packed in three different packages, maid obviously forgot about the older batch and asked me to buy new ones
  • So many expired food stuff that date back to as old as 2004! YUCKS!
  • Big containers taking up space when they are only like half or less full!

Aitelyu, this also I must handle then where got time to blog leh??

Dinnertime
Since we took like 2 friggin hours to clean the grimy fridge, we ran late in preparing dinner and lil princess is awake with no food prepared! Major stressed now. Asked hubby to help prepare the dishes for dinner, meaning, lay the table ler but guess what? He went to wash the dirty dishes in the sink! Ok fine, got the wrong message, told him off and guess what he did? He started washing some big noodle bowls..errrr…hello!! FOR WHAT?? We are having rice!!

Me - Hello! What are you doing?

Hubby - Get ready la

Me - What’s the bowl for?

Hubby - I don’t know..

Me - (Boiling by now, I think 90degs) What?!? Dishes, u know the usual dish we need for eating rice?? Helllloooooooooo…

Hubby - Say la! How I know and these bowls are like on the dining table ma..

Me - (If I had a weak heart, I would have had a heart attack by now) Then you could’ve asked what the bowls were for right??

Hubby - Mumbling and grumbling..

Me - I would have expected this from the maid but not from you who’s educated and manager of bla bla bla…

Hubby - Kuhlmanhe! (ENOUGH!)

Me - (Would be pronounced deaded by now really….) Why do you keep arguing when it’s so obvious that you are wrong??

Weyo?? Why can’t men just admit that they are wrong one??
