Days without the maid…(backdated…)

December 29, 2007 · 22 Comments

Kylie woke up the first morning after the maid left and as per the usual routine she went downstairs to get her milk…

K-ta tak? ta tak? (calling out to maid)

Me-no more Kakak (maid)…mummy will make nen nen (milk) for u..

As expected, she didn’t bother about the maid and continued playing while waiting for the milk. I reminded Kieran there’s no more kakak (maid) for now so I warned him not to make a mess. I made him his milo and I noticed he took his cup to the sink on his own after finishing the milk. I was so proud of him. Then when I showered both of them, Kieran as usual dressed himself up without fuss and then after I dressed up Kylie, both of them started to make up the bed!

K-Mummy this is not the way to make the bed!

(I just covered Kylie’s comforter over the bed without taking out the pillow and placing it on the top)

Me-Well if it’s not right then you correct it la..

I didn’t ask for it but Kieran had the initiative! Oh wow! So unexpected!

I left Kylie at mom’s place and took Kieran to the office so he can do some maths & BM workbooks that I bought. But he gets distracted every now & then so I decided to ask him to help vacuum the floor! He quickly took out the vacuum cleaner & he vacuumed more than the floor, the shelves & stuff on the shelves too! Oh double wow! He’s so clean & meticulous! I really couldn’t believe it!

Angie warned I could be sued for getting someone under 18 to that but he was at it for like say 15 minutes? Or less? It was like a game to him..so cannot be considered as child labour la…Well I’m not complaining..at least he got rid of all the visible dirt! Bravo to Kieran!!

Happy Christmas to me…happy Christmas to me…

December 23, 2007 · 47 Comments

I just couldn’t resist getting myself a gift for Christmas. Actually I’ve been looking to buy this for quite some time but just didn’t know which one to get until I came across this really good sales guy who looks like Jay Chow! He was so good he convinced me that I should get this thing..but then I didn’t buy it immediately and still gave it some thought over a week..then I read in that this lady too was getting it and I then decided that I shouldn’t delay further…so I got myself this on top of many other stuff (yes yes Amah has been shopping…n shopping…)…the downside was and the most potong steam (anti climax) part was that I got it slightly more expensive than hers and she had more freebies!!! blek!

zheng zheng zheng…..*drum roll*….

Part 2 of our Short Trip..another long one…

December 19, 2007 · 17 Comments

Before I get into the trip, would like to thank dear Kat for sending me a Christmas card all the way from the middle east! Wow, so surprised to received a snail mail card since it’s kinda rare with the internet cards, Facebook..etc…Thanks again!

We went to the Singapore Zoo quite late as Amah & Apoh wanted to do last minute shopping while the kids spend some time at the pool. Amah miscalculated and didn’t bring enough clothings for Kylie and brought too many for Kieran! Really last minute mia pasal (reason).

The zoo’s car park system broke down so we paid cash for the parking. It was a good thing cos remember..my Autopass cannot pay for parking (so claimed by that Autopass staff at the Causeway). We parked and got down in a hurry as we wanted to go for the animal show which the hotel concierge told us that it was at 1.30 p.m. After we got the tickets and the Zoo map & activities flyer…we realised that the show started at 12.30 p.m. instead! Shiats…of course couldn’t make it la! Then later we realised the later show at 4.30 p.m. was cancelled due to renovations in the zoo. Huh?? If they could have a show at 12.30 p.m. what’s the renovation got to do with the 2nd show? Doesn’t make sense lor…bad excuse to cut us short man!

We then walked around since the next show was at 3 pm and then suddenly realised I left my laptop in the car! So I had to go back to get it and told the rest to wait for me at the restaurant. When I came back to the restaurant, I couldn’t see the gang! Oh no!!!!!!!!! Not again! The distance for me to go back to the car and come back to the restaurant is more than enough time for them to go to the restaurant from where we parted so it really didn’t make sense why they have not reached the destination! I again began to wonder if they went to the wrong one, there were only 2 places to eat inside the zoo, but the other place is like so far away! Then I just sat there waiting…waiting…then I thought I better get some food. As I approached the queue, I saw Apoh!! Yeah!! They just arrived and were sitting the other side so they didn’t see me. They took so long as Kieran stopped along the way looking at the animals..

Food at the zoo was relatively ok and the price for the quality was more reasonable as compared to the crap we ate the night before at Din Tai Fung, Wisma Atria. We ate at the Din Tai Fung branch here at the Gardens, Midvalley the week before and found the food really bad and over priced. Then a friend told me it was better in Spore, hence I tried it and found it to be even worse! According to another friend, the Din Tai Fung at the Paragon is the best but I’m not convinced and I don’t think I wanna try it even if given a chance… :P

Back to the zoo…after the food, we went to the aquamarine amphitheater for the next show and it was really full. We managed to find some seats but the maid had to stand with the stroller…Halfway thru the show…it started to drizzle….pitter patter…pitter..patter…blip…blop…blip..blop….bisssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…..argghhhhh!!!!!!!!! The rain was so heavy we had to run for cover and we were stuck at the shaded area for quite some time. We didn’t purchase for the tram rides as the tickets were already so expensive…so I thot of saving some $$ and didn’t get it…drats…it was SGD5 more for each adult & SGD2.50 for the kid…so Amah was a scroodge saving money so didn’t get lor..So we just waited…and then the rain began to subside and we decided to walk on and then saw the polar bear so decided to go in to have a look but then it started to pour again and began to flood too!!

See the crowd at the covered area…then we were getting so tired and fed up and went to get the plastic rain coats at SGD3 each irregardless of size!! So cheating lor! Blek!

As we walked back towards the entrance of the zoo the rain subsided but we were all so tired and the kids were complaining and wanted to go home…..

We left and went round looking for a suburban shopping complex. Wanted to buy some stuff from the supermarket. I was told that the frozen turkeys are much more cheaper than KL so we wanted to get 2 back for Christmas! We stopped at the first one I saw not too far from the zoo, but it was a cash card payment only car park so I parked at the side of the road and told them to wait there while I go in to get the turkey. However as I was checking it out, I overheard a Singaporian couple commenting the price was on the high side. I asked them if it’s cheaper over at NTUC Fairprice and they said it was so I decided to go there instead, since it was just on the opposite side.

I drove off and saw the sign at the car park entrance indicating SGD2 per entry and no cash card payment system was indicated so I was overjoyed and made my way in. At the ticket dispenser machine I realised to my horror it was a cash card payment system! Argggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…. I had no choice but to just take my chance and stuffed my Auto Pass in and the barrier miraculously opened up! Aiya that woman at the Causeway really gave me a scare for no reason!

We loaded up our trolley in no time (almost forgot that we are not shopping at home!) The turkeys were at a steal price of SGD5.50 per kg only! So one turkey at about 5 kg was only about SGD28 or about RM65 only!! Cheap leh!!!! Here’s a peek of my shopping loot…(there’s more…couldn’t fit in la..)

Sending Maid Off

December 18, 2007 · 27 Comments

Yes the day arrived to send her home came and gone…phewwww…..I deviated from my plan a little but nevertheless it worked! We confused her a little on the departure date and time so she was not able to know until we were ready to leave the house! I have packed her bag (with whatever miserable stuff she has, not much) and set aside the clothes she needed to change to board the plane. Someone told I should have kicked sent her home in a boat instead of flying but I was not sure how to get the boat tickets and how reliable it is, I mean as in security la…like in the airport, at least I’m assured she has like least likelihood of escaping once she enters the departure hall!

As I was checking through her whatever belongings, I found RM0.70 coins hidden in her sanitary pad. I was like, duhhhh..hiding things in sanitary pad is like the oldest trick there was and of course the amount is not that big but still I took it back. She probably nicked the 70 sen from mom’s place while we were away in Singapore.

I did a body check but of course I didn’t check if she’s hidden anything in the “holes” inside the body la! Wah so disgusting man..if she’s hidden some there, let it be la! Bluekkkk…uwek…uwek…

I told her again why she is not able to take anything else besides the things she originally brought from Indonesia. I usually bring the maid to buy whatever they want to bring back home once they are leaving me for good and also give them an angpow (monatary gift in a red packet) but for this maid, NO WAY! I made her sign a letter indicating why she is taking home less one month’s salary, just in case she comes back to me saying I have underpaid her. Reasons for deducting the salary was very obvious and of course it’s not able to cover whatever she’s destroyed during her 2 years here but I am sure it will affect her nevertheless.

As we were approaching the check in counter, I noticed her eyes were getting red & tears were welling up. I was actually at one moment did feel sorry for her and took out some money to give to her…but I hesitated and as we walked towards the departure gate, I dug into my pocket to take out the money but somehow my hand froze in the pocket and didn’t come out!! You guys must be thinking Amah is so cruel and cold hearted but for the things she has put me throught even to the very last day as she walked in the departure hall, it was stress all the way! Not worth it la! Even the spirit of Christmas did not move me to give her the extra pocket money! And after seeing that she left one piece of her dirty laundry hidden in the pails in her toilet & also some rotten food hiding in containers, I feel even better now for not giving her the money!

As we walked away seeing that she has passed immigration, it was such a relief…it was like a very heavy burden lifted off my shoulders! Boy suddenly we felt so hungry and wanted to eat at McDonalds but upon seeing the queue, we decided not to and went back to OUG to eat dim sum…somehow the food tasted exceptionally well, probably not because the cook improved..it was most probably because I was in an exceptionally good mood! Yipppeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! (Not even the thought of having to do my own laundry & taking care of the kids can take this happy mood from me!!)

Short Trip but Long Review

December 14, 2007 · 28 Comments

I suddenly just decided on a short trip down South with the kids but Apah couldn’t make it (which was good also cos Apoh was the reason this trip was executed!). Apoh was saying it’s been some time like more than 10 years since she last been to Singapore so Amah being the filial shopaholic daughter decided to just make this trip and the only weekend we had free was this one!

First stop was Malacca to collect a cheque from a customer and also for a break. However, while we were approaching Ayer Keroh I suddenly heard flapping sound on my front right tyre, Oh no…this cannot be cos I had a bad experience a few years back when I went to Malacca and my car broke down at Ayer Keroh rest area!! I stopped the car on the side and the flapping sound became louder and very disturbing. I noticed that the mudguard was broken to pieces and I guess it got detached and the speed of the tyre kept knocking on it thus tearing it! I switched cars with my brother as his car had the Singapore Autopass so I thought it was more convenient if I took his car instead of applying a new card for my car.

So I had to slow down to like 60km/h in order to minimise the flapping sound!! Good thing we were not too far from the Ayer Keroh exit into Malacca. We stopped at a Shell station to pump up & also check if the foreman can fix the problem but he said he can’t recommended someone else further down the road. It was a tyre & battery shop called Lien Ho (I think, but I remember it was a Goodyear dealer with the signboard in blue of course and there was a KFC opposite the shop. Located on the main road that leads to Malacca Town Centre, after the Shell & Esso Station). The foreman was really funny and kept insisting it was a small thing and shouldn’t be a problem. I asked if I should replace the mudguard and he kept saying no need and said you can do without it! I was like duhhhh…then he said the only way to replace it is back to Toyota and it was going to cost a bomb. So he suggested to trim away the torn part and make sure it doesn’t get further damaged. He didn’t even charge me for the work done and he had to lie down on the floor to fix that problem! What a nice guy!! I mean he saw my car plates knowing I’m not local and he not only didn’t jump at the opportunity to slaughter me alive but he didn’t charge me a single sen!! Gosh there are still nice & genuine foremen out there!!! Hallelujah!

Then it was lunch at Mahkota Parade (for easy parking and toilet facilities..) and then off we went to Batu Pahat to visit another customer. After that it was down to Johor Bahru. I vaguely remember the way to the hotel and had to called for directions after all. The first guy gave me directions to “Holland” (meaning no where near the hotel la) and I had to call again. The second guy was really good and was so precise! I was really tired by then..and after entering the room the first thing was to get the kids showered so we can shower and all go to sleep! So we didn’t notice the many flaws in the room!!

As I was resting on the bed Kieran kept creeping under the duvet and fooling around and suddenly he said this..

K-Mum, the bedsheet is very black..

M-Cannot be la..

K-It is la..

I still didn’t bother..

Then it was my turn to shower..the door was kinda derailed from the sliding rail and I had difficulty closing the door. After the shower I couldn’t even open the door and the maid had to help push the door open (oh yes I brought my mom’s maid along as I know I couldn’t handle the kids). Then we looked up and to our horror, the sliding rail was worn out and there was a part missing from the door right in front!! Then we suddenly noticed all the flaws one by one…let the pictures do the talking! I was too tired to insist on changing rooms and just got housekeeping to change the sheets and maintenance to fix the door. Good thing they worked pretty fast.

The next morning I again encountered with more bad service at the breakfast table. They didn’t serve me tea or coffee so I had to call the waiter to do it but he went on doing his thing like clearing dirty dishes and entertaining the foreign customers! I kept staring at him and he just looked away! Then I called another waiter and he did the same!! WTF!! Ok I had it and thot to myself that Amah had to chew off somebody’s head for this! First victim was the restaurant manager.

Then he apologised and served me tea at the lounge area but of course I’m not letting them go so easily. Then I went to Front Desk and harrassed the receptionist who just stared blankly at me. The Assistant Front Desk Manager came to her rescue and quickly whisked me away to their Business Centre to hear me out. I just went bla bla bla bla bla..your hotel sucks big time bla bla bla bla..cannot qualify to be 5 star bla bla bla bla…and she said they are going to have morning briefing soon and will discuss my problem. One hour later, they called me and offered me a measly 20% discount. I was too fed up to bargain for more…so I just accepted it.

Drive down to Singapore was smooth and traffic at Woodlands checkpoint was bearable. Then upon reaching the Singapore checkpoint, the autopass card has to expire on me!!!!! Really “soi” (bad luck) maximum la. At the Autopass office, that officer also being the typical Singaporean was so mean and didn’t really explain what’s the consequences of the card and when I asked her what’s the amount inside the card she said a lot instead of giving me a figure. Blardy biatch, then she just did her stuff and then told me the card had SGD112+ but I can only use it for entry & exit purposes plus toll charges but cannot use it as a cash card! WTF! The blardy card has so much value and I can’t use it as a cash card, how the “L” are we going to finish using it for toll wor?? It’s not like we enter Singapore on a weekly basis! So freaking mad with her but can’t do anything just in case she sabo me and I can’t enter how? Shiats! She summore had to say this, “It’s ok one, no problem one, if the parking spots that require only cash card payment system, you just buy another cash card lor…” WTF! Of course no problem to her la, it’s not her freaking money wat! What am I going to do with another cash card wor??

Anyway, since it was a rush decision to go, I didn’t have time to study the road map to check out directions to the hotel in Singapore, so Amah again being a hero found her way there based on my vague memory and of course the excellent road signs there la!

Christmas lights was ok, not as impressive as Hong Kong but ok la…since we beggers cannot be choosy…but the kids were not impressed so Amah mai shop lor…Shopping loot later la…Then as we were heading back to the hotel, walking from Paragon towards Scotts Road, somehow I lost my mom who was with the maid pushing Kylie on the stroller. I was so darn stressed as I know my mom..what’s the consequences…then Kieran started to panic..he was beginning to be sooo worried. I began to hold his hand really tightly…I smsed to Apah to asked him to pray along with us..then Kieran who usually refuses to volunteer to pray, started praying aloud…I was so touched by his simple faith in God. Then Apah smsed me back and said that we will find them in 5 minutes time and guess what?? We were already walking back to the hotel that time hoping to find them there…and as we reached the room, we could hear Kylie’s and Apoh’s voices!! Hallelujah!!! Then as we were talking about how I was worried they can’t find the way back, Kieran suddenly began to sob and hugged Apoh…wow..my rascal who is sooo disobedient and rough can get soooo emotional…I’m sooo proud of him!!! That goes to show…he really loves his Apoh and was genuinely concerned!

Maid Saga..

December 7, 2007 · 35 Comments

10 days more till I kick send the maid back to her homeland. Yet she still has to create problems. I think it was just last month that I accidentally came across her charging her mobile phone in my office building. Where did she get it? Her boy friend it seems…Nothing comes free cos I have a mobile that is missing and she must have nicked it and passed to her so called boy friend in exchange for the cheaper mobile and phone card.

But her RM50 & RM20 prepaids are never enough as I know she has been harrassing my office staff to help her get the prepaid cards to send her endless love messages to her “Ayank” (sayang-ku/my love). I have kept the mobile phone locked up..and never left her alone at home again since then..Apparently my neighbour has seen her boyfriend come to our house and they were holding hands outside. Whether they went in to make out we are still unsure.

HOWEVER….she was able to get another mobile phone again as Angie found her message in tiny weeny piece of scrap paper to one of my staff requesting to help buy her a prepaid card. So this morning, I went into her room to search for the phone but as I was digging into her stuff, I couldn’t find it. Then I noticed my deep fryer machine. I just wanted to check whether she has cleaned it properly and when I opened the box, there lies her new mobile phone, an upgraded version of course! I quickly hid it and then locked it without her knowledge and then quickly said this from upstairs, ” Lets go!” (meaning to leave the house now..) I can see that she’s been inside her room to take her change of clothes and I was wondering if she knows that her phone is missing. I plan not to confront her this time and pretend like nothing happened.

Upon reaching the office, she quickly asked to use my staff’s mobile as she has to urgently message someone. Who else?? Must be to notify her lover to get her another phone! I can’t believe that she’s so daring. Aparently she has a lot of cash to spend as she’s been trying to shove them to my staff to help her get the prepaid card. I am not sure if my staff has helped her but of course they said to me that they have denied to help.

I have planned how I can surprise her the day I send her to the airport. I will make her wear marked under garments & clothing the day before and place her in a place where she will never dream of sleeping in (meaning not my house or my mom’s house or anywhere she would think she will be sleeping in) and then will bring fresh under garments and clothing the day she leaves. I will make sure she returns the under garments that has been marked to me before she goes into the car. Her bag will not be with her of course! So there’s no way she can hide anything anywhere! I will pack her bag only with the things and clothes she brought her from her home and will not allow her to bring back any clothings that we have given to her here. Weyo? Maybe some of you will think I’m so cruel, but for the stress she has put me through, I think she doesn’t deserve anything extra other than her monthly salary!

So what do you think of my plan? Do you think it will work?? But the thought of it also make me so the happy lor….Muahahahahahahhahahaa…..(majorly evil laughter)

Kieran’s 7th Birthday Bash

December 5, 2007 · 34 Comments

Before I go into the birthday….would like to wish Apah Happy 9th Wedding Anniversary! He’s going to take me out for dinner tonite which he started to tell me since last week and every day reminded me till last night!!!!! Yes la I can remember la! Well 9 years have gone just like that..and of course it has not been always happy la…but I guess we have our ups and downs but we have worked thru it…(and still working at it!!) :P

Ok back to the party…Kieran’s actual birthday is on 7th December but we celebrated earlier since the actual date falls on a weekday.

Preparation for the party began a week earlier. We went to the supermarket like 3 - 4 times to get our supplies and to sum up the bill..I think to have it catered by e.g. fast food place or restaurant would be cheaper!!

I decided on Batman theme and I decided to make a bat for the pinata. It really didn’t look like a bat according to Angie (looks more like a cat’s body!! LOL!) but it was the best I could do….hahahahhaa the expert is not around to help me.. Kieran was supposed to help me with the paper mache part…but he only help to start it off and then said he hated the glue part…so I had to finish up myself!! I blew up 2 balloons, one smaller for the head and the bigger for the body.

Sorry I didn’t get the finished product’s picture! Maybe can see one at Jazzmint’s site!

Since I was like hero trying to do everything myself I dare not invite too many people…just in case…..true enough I ran out of time and on top of it..my electric fryer decided to give me a heart attack and decided to die on me when I set it up! I called my technician who happens to live in Klang to come and save me! Thank God he managed to fix the problem (which was quite minor..phew….) But due to all the ding dong ding dong…the food was served late la…apologies to everyone who was waiting…Then my Kenwood died on me…so I didn’t have cream on the cupcakes!!! Blechhh…

Thank goodness Aunty Fiona (my sister in law) helped to finish up the batman labels for sticking on to the cupcakes and also came early to help! That’s about all the photos I have since I was soooo bz and Apah was bz entertaining the kids. Thanks to Jazzmint & Barbara for taking so many pictures and posting them up! Muakssss!!!

I think I will never do this again…I should have at least got the food catered so I can spend time with my guests!! A lesson well learned!! Apologies to my guests for having to endure my grub..another sad note is Angie who lost her camera in the party! I feel so bad as it was her wedding aniversary gift and it’s only 2 - 3 months old!! I can’t find it as yet but I somehow know who did it! So, a reminded to all who’s out to parties even in friend’s houses, there are visitors of all sorts…so better be careful of your belongings…
