Beijing Day 7-Finale

This is definitely the grand finale to my Beijing 2009 trip. This goes to show how much I enjoyed my trip there. It was absolutely worth my time documenting this down. I will definitely go again if given a chance.

We were really tired from the long night from the trip to the Olympic Park. It was  sooo cold that night.

The morning of day 7, Apah woke up first & then peeked out of the hotel window. He exclaimed that it was snowing like a little boy. I was still sleeping & sleepily told him to shut up & let me sleep but he went on, “Real one..snowing!! Come see!” I woke up instantly & opened up the curtains! The view was simply breathtaking eventhough it was a hospital right in front! The snow on top of the trees was soooo beautiful! Don’t believe look at the photos!

We quickly washed up so we can go out to experience the snow. I’ve not seen snow since my uni days in Australia. So I was pretty excited. But it was our last day and we couldn’t do much. I was wondering it would have been quite a sight at the Forbidden City but we simply did not have the time as I had to do some last minute shopping again!

We managed to buy what we wanted to buy (and also not supposed to) and managed to take some shots in the was simply breathtaking…We heard that the snow was induced as it was not raining for a while. So they had tried to induce rain but the sudden cold front changed that to snow instead! Lucky us!

We packed & then checked out. We took a cab to the airport and it was half the price of the cab we took from the airport!! That’s the thing about China, we really have to be careful with their cabs, especially from the airport. They are all out to con you big time!!

Our luggage was not overweight as expected as we did not  bring our big bag. We checked in only to find that our flight was delayed due to heavy snowfall. We waited like over 3 hours I think…it felt so long and it was really cold as well despite being indoors!

Overall, I really really enjoyed myself during this trip. I was disappointed with the Great Wall visit & I vowed to myself that I will come back again!

The end!

Beijing Day 6

I thought I could end the Beijing saga in this post but I was soo wrong! Looks like there will be another post after this..but when? I really donch know!!

Day 6

We made an appointment to meet Mom to 3 Angels at Temple of Heaven.Since she could only meet us after lunch, we decided to go to Jinshan again & then to Tiananmen Square.

Some dance classes/club at the Summer Palace Park

As expected, it was clear & sunny day! We thought it was good for our photos of the Forbidden City but it was wayyy tooooo bright! Shucks! Nevertheless we did manage to take more photos around Jinshan Park. Awesome place.

Next was Tiananmen Square. We took a bus there even though it was nearby. Bus rides cost RMB1 per pax woi..why walk huh? The crowd at Tiananmen was overwhelming…mostly local Chinese tourists. There were tourists squatting every where, even right in the middle of the square! Weird but true. It was a great place to just observe the people there…very interesting indeed.

We went to have Peking Duck at Quanjude, supposedly most famous place to have Peking Duck. Verdict? So-so only lerrrr..However, that restaurant is huge! They had a building of their own, I think there were 5 floors & the queue was so freaking long, they had a numbering system with this pretty lady calling your number using a mic! There were like 10 rows of chairs on the ground entrance hall for the patrons while they wait. We waited for about 20mins and managed to charged our camera battery while waiting! hahahha…

After lunch we took the underground train to meet up with Mom to 3 Angels at Temple of Heaven. Upon entering the park, it was really like entering heaven…it was like the most beautiful place ever…I somehow felt the serenity & peacefulness despite the crowd of tourists. Love the trees, and of course the building of the temples. Thoroughly enjoyed the park but we had to go off as it was getting dark.

Walked opposite to the shopping centre. It was something like the Silk Market but better. The toys store caught our attention first. Bought toys etc for the kids..SO CHEAP!!! It was a few stories and they had stationery on the top floor.

We then walked to the next building which sells exactly the same stuff in Silk Market but the shopkeepers were friendlier & more willling to heed to our bargaining! Bought the fames (famous) slippers despite Apah telling me they were copies. I kept insisting they were overruns or rejects..but Apah being the shoe specialist insisted they were copies (indeed they were as the sizes do not match the originals!)..blek..what the heck cos I bought matching ones with Kylie and they cost only a fraction of the originals…ok ok I know this is so not me…but they are after all slippers for crying out loud!

Bought more souvenirs & Apah bought his iPod gadgets (talking about originals…he mai bought copies..tsk tsk tsk..) Bought a Jap brand earphones as the iPod earphones were causing pain in my ears. Copy of course! How else can you get a Jap brand earphones for about RM10!!

Mom to 3 Angels left us early but we continued shopping till dark! Finally we decided to stop as we had to catch dinner as we planned to go to the Olympic Park. As we were walked out to catch the bus back to the hotel we saw this familiar looking coffee joint but when we looked carefully, it was not that  was a copy!!

Mun lei sei mei! Ala Bintang$ Kopi

We took a cab there not knowing if there was a subway going there. The cab driver did not really know where to drop us. Thank goodness for the bright blue Aquatic Centre, we just walked towards it. The cold wind was of course made us walk faster!

One of my better shots..

The Aquatic Centre was indeed beautiful, really loved the blue bubble like structures. It was very windy & it was difficult to get a good picture, obviously hands were shaky (freezing ma..) & we didnt bring the tripod (too many things to carry leow). Then we saw some tables & I had the brilliant idea of using it as a tripod replacement! So we managed to get shots of ourselves using the timer! We had to quickly take the photos cos the cold was getting a bit unbearable.  (The outcome for the sudden cold front will be in my next & final post on Beijing!)

We asked the guards if there was a subway station nearby & there  was! So we took the subway back to the hotel of course. RMB2 versus cabfare (forgot how much but it was at least RMB50 I it was quite a distance from the hotel) was the obvious reason!

Beijing Day 5

We woke up early as we were going to the Mutianyu Great Wall which is slightly further away from town.  There were ready taxis available in front of the hotel and after a short negotiation (RMB500 to & fro) we were on our way up. However, the weather was not kind to us. It was  gloomy & cloudy day. The taxi driver did tell us that Saturday was a better day (he was so right) but we already had plans to meet up with Mom to 3 Angels at Temple of Heaven.

On the way to the Great Wall we could vaguely see the wall as it was misty & cloudy. It was such a waste. From this I vowed that I will be back to Beijing again, maybe with the kids sometime in the future.

Upon reaching, the driver took us to the ticket counter & made sure we got the cable car tickets . He said he will just wait for us in the car till we come down.

Walking to the cable car station

The scenery from the cable car was not very good. It was just a short ride to the wall.  I was really expecting to have that feeling of having my breath taken away from all the photos & tv programs I have seen before regarding this wonder of the world but however, I was gravely disappointed due to the unkind weather. It was really misty & the view was of course not as breathtaking as I had expected.

I really like this photo & I took it of course! It’s located behind the wall..I wonder what it’s for..for the soldiers to relax???

Did you notice the rainbow?? It was raining!!

We had to run to those “rest areas” to escape the rain. Was super tired so I didn’t mind the rest time. The steps here were really steep & I struggled to walk along the wall. At one point of time I had to stop to catch up with my breath & I was like breathing so heavily that Apah thought I was going to collapse!! I am so unfit!!

The rain didnt seem to stop & we decided to leave after a while. It was a bummer alright. While walking down towards the carpark there were stalls along the way. Apah saw this communist hat & wanted to get it. I thought it was bulky & waste of money! But he liked it & the vendor of course detected how much he liked it & didnt really budge much on the price. A few stalls down the road offered a cheaper price but he already had the stupid hat in his hands! Blek..

The taxi ride back to the hotel was about an hour. We rested a bit and walked out to the nearby shopping centre to have dinner. Was too tired to go anywhere else. Was disapointed there were no good & reasonably priced foot reflexology service around the hotel we stayed so Apah had to give me a massage!!

Shopping Rendezvous (super long post)

I don’t know why I keep getting smses telling me here sale there sale? Can someone tell me ah? Do you also get these promotion smses? Ok ok..stupid question..don’t have to be a genius to guess the answer. I should be Laundryamah aka Shopperamah.

I thought after 31 August the shopping season has ended..but nope, obviously it hasn’t. There’s the Raya sale now…so now I have bought enough for Christmas & also the coming Chinese New Year…shoes included, of course for the kids only larrr…

Pumpkin Patch (unfortunately this is not a paid post!) was having special relocation sale at the Gardens. So after picking Kylie up from school then off we went to pick up Kieran from tuition. I packed his clothes in the morning and told him to shower in tuition class, well planned leh..but Kylie had to pee in her pants so I had to shower her too. Tuition teacher was kind enough to allow us to use her bathroom but then do you think she dare to NOT let me meh?? grrrrrrr..I’m not over the last incident and there are new stories about her, always have screaming & shouting arguments with her husband in front of the kids..

After the super duper fast shower, we zoomed off as I was afraid to be caught in the after work “puasa” (fasting period for the Muslims) month horrendous jam. It was only 10 minutes past 5 and I was stuck on Jalan University all the way to Midvalley took us 1 hour when it was actually a less than 10 minute journey!! Kids were complaining they were hungry. The choice of restaurant of course went to Kieran and it was Canton i (I hate going there, no.1 It’s very expensive, No.2 The service is very slow No.3 The service is very bad No.4 The tableware is china and I panic all the time Kylie messes around with the china…). And this comment goes for all the outlets! Well, I guess I can say they are consistent! Why do we keep going there? The food is no doubt the closest to HK style and the kids love the wonton and dim sum…errmmm so do I!!

Dinner was slow despite the fact that it was only 6.30pm with only less than 10 tables occupied. Kylie was a riot as usual, had to warn her so many times and threatened her a million times and finally I had to whack her with chopsticks! Kieran was good throughout and finished his food. However, I have to finish Kylie’s share!

After dinner it was straight to harvesting Pumpkins at the Patch… 😀 Bought more t shirts and bottoms for Kylie and also Kieran, plus a t shirt each for my nephew and niece, all in 8 pieces for only RM250.75!! They were all 50% plus additional 15% as I bought more than 4 pieces. Good deal leh..

When I was packing the new clothes into the new clothes box (to keep clothes that are still too big and for use later.. 🙂 ), I realised I have bought this same pink pants (above) during the August sales! So I have to take this back either later today or tomorrow…and this means…MORE shopping!!

After my harvest at the Patch, I proceeded to Isetan since there were special weekend Raya Sales! Bought 2 more t shirts from Poney for Kylie at 70% off. I don’t remember Poney offering such high discounts before..max ony 50% off….

The kids were playing with the lego toys and I had to scream for them to come try these beauties…

Osh Kosh shoes at RM69 each pair! A steal right??? The biggest size is just right with about 2 cm space for Kieran, hopefully he can still fit the shoes by CNY next year! Kylie has better size choices, so I bought at least 3 sizes bigger!! Kiasuism at its max was practised here!

On top of the kids stuff, I bought bed linen again..yes O-GAIN! But hor, how could I resist the offer? 400thread count full set, comforter cover plus bedsheet plus  2 pillow cases at RM180! Warao…cheap leh…but I had to buy the matching bolster cover at RM26.70 even after 70% discount! Should have left it out and just use a white cover which I already have..but then again..must have matching matching ones right?????? Urggghhhh..all the excuses I have for shopping!

So after the loot, I still wanted to take a peek at the shoes section and it was “buka puasa” (breaking fast) time and it was soooo quiet. I had to look around for someone to serve me. He disappeared into the store for sooo long and came out with the wrong size! Then again off he went and he felt so bad and apologetic and softly told me that there were no more my size!! Uwahhhhhhhh…The kids were playing shoe sales man and Kylie as customer during the time I was trying out shoes.

Since I couldn’t get any shoes, off we went since I was tired also. Lugged my very heavy shopping loot down to the carpark and found a trolley. The moment I dropped the loot in the trolley, Kylie has to go pee! It was P2 I told Kieran to stand guard the trolley (mistake cos it should be quite risky to leave  a 8 year old kid alone in a quiet car park at basement 2 hor??) and hurried Kylie to the toilet.

After paying for the parking ticket, I walked out and suddenly heard Kieran calling out to me, “Mom, mom, mom…” I turned around and saw his face so worried.

K-“Mom, I left my toy at the place…”

Me-Aiya..forget it la..let’s go..

K-No…I want to get it back.. (eyes red swelled with tears by now)

Me-Where did you leave the toy?

K-There..the shoes there…

Me-Ok then you go back yourself and get it. Go up this escalator & then turn to your left (again very bad mom, but the loot was really heavy and I don’t want to lug them there again!) I repeated the directions at least 3 times..

After a while I saw him coming down, eyes all red and tears all welled up..

K-Mom, I can’t find the place..

Me-Did you turn to the right instead?

Me-Aiyooo..ok ok let’s go

We rushed back towards Isetan and I told him to run ahead and get it while I wait outside. He finally found the toy and off we went to the carpark. Had to hurry as I already paid for the ticket before the running up and down happened. When we reached the car we were all drenched in sweat…gosh..we were totally beat..but Kieran was so relieved that he found his toy..

K-I asked one security guard but he couldn’t help me

Me-What did you ask him?

K-I asked him where was the place which was right in the end and has lots of shoes..

I laughed out loud and said that at both ends of the mall, meaning Isetan and Robinsons, have their ladies shoe sections at the same place but in opposite directions. No wonder the guard can’t help me la….

We had to go back to the office to pick up the maid so all 3 of us showered again as I knew the kids will fall asleep in the car on the way home. Good thing I still had clothes in the office while we always pack pyjamas for the kids for cases like this! Phew…what a long long day…

Inzago Day 2 & 3

The 2nd day started with practical training and it was indeed an eye opener for me after 10 years in the industry! It’s considered late despite the fact that I have been to 3 international laundry equipment exhibitions! So now you guys know what’s been happening in the past la..main main shopping saja….tsk tsk tsk…

Lunch was at the same place again for convenience since it was closest to the factory but this time it was with another guy. There were only 2 persons who could speak descent English in the factory…so he was the other guy…

Training continued and then my dinner with the marketing manager was postponed to the  next day so with my limited Italian I managed to ask the driver to take me to a supermarket. What did I say? I just smiled at him and said this, “emmm…aqua…errr..super mercato?…<grin>” Thank God he understood me! I tried looking frantically for my cartoon and cute pasta but couldn’t find any! So I went looking for my dinner, a salad and my water. I had another Korean cup noodle so that will be my dinner!

Day 3 was supposed to be casual. Met with the owner of the factory but he could not speak much English, so it was just small talk..haha. Then another supplier came to see me and passed me some spare parts. Then my very “reliable” driver took me to town to meet my shopping tour guide who was also the owner of the factory and she spoke better English..phew… (brother and sister business). However, my driver got lost despite having the GPS and we went round and round and numerous phone calls later, we finally found her.

We hopped on the train and off we went. The only place we had time to see was the Duomo of course. I went in the church the last time I came but didnt realise that we could go up to the roof! So off we went up the roof. The view was spectacular!

Then lunch was at this  open air restaurant on the 6th floor (I think) of the La Rinascente just next to the Duomo. We had the yummiest mozarella ever…

After lunch it was shopping time…and first stop was of course my favourite..Louis Vuitton!! I told myself nope I am not going to buy anything this trip…but but but…..then I saw this…my excuse was I don’t have a white bag…

It was within my so called budget so I got it la..I initially wanted another model with the same pattern but that one was a bit over my budget, so I had to give that a miss lerrr…

Then I had to get my sunglasses since I lost my Prada (the one I bought in my last Italian trip in 2008). This time I got a Chanel..a bit over my budget but what the heck!!

More of my purchases lormantik dinneer by the river in the next post…

I can’t get enough of Tupperware. I’m a Tupperware freak, every darn thing I have is stored in a Tupperware! I was shopping for my monthly dose this afternoon and there were a few others buying also. I noticed the sum they buy is quite a lot, up to RM800 worth of tupperware, boy, that’s a lot! Wow, looks like I’m not the only freak around! Mind you, there were a few of them ok…but they are dealers who actually buy and sell also la.but STILL! Quite a lot leh!

Anyway, there’s a pretty good deal for this month. There’s a good offer for the freezer containers. I find them so convenient. If you buy the big set of 8 items, you will get 8 pieces of the smaller containers. On top of that, can buy the pair of bigger ones at 30% off the normal price.  FYI, I already have a lot but I still bought la…can’t help it..good deal ma…
